Susan Wade Quit writing about Christian County for Springfield Daily Citizen
To be clear, it is unclear if she only quit freelance writing about Christian County for the SDC or if she quit completely. In context, with time freed up, it seems completely.
Notably, Susan is wished well by Sheila Michaels. I have covered Sheila Michaels and her run for County Commissioner in Christian County. Recently Mrs. Michaels applied for the vacant position left by Allyson Tuckness but was not appointed by the County Commissioners. The County Commissioners in a vote of 2-1 chose Mary Hernandez de Carl. Hosea Bilyeu dissented, choosing Ruth Ann Maynard. (Good Bye, Bilyeu. You will not be missed.) Sheila Michaels is associated with UTurn in Education.
She is also wished well by Haylee Anderson who also applied for a vacant position left by Stephanie Sekscinski left in June. Mrs. Sekscinski was replaced by John Garrity. Haylee Anderson is associated with UTurn in Education.
As of this date, UTurn in Education has not published their board members or their officers, so there is no transparency on who serves and doesn’t serve with them. I am only noting that at least two UTurn associates (not stated members) are wishing Mrs. Wade well in her retirement.
Her retirement comes shortly after the publication of her article that is now archived at Springfield Daily Citizen about Christian County Library’s newest Library Board Trust, the above mentioned Hernandez de Carl.
Three subsequent articles came out to counter her article and the points made in her article.
First Article from Gretchen Garrity
Second Article from David Rice
Third Article from David Rice
It was noticed that there were no reporters last night at the Christian County Library Board from either the Springfield Daily Citizen or KSMU. Chris Drew, in quoting Susan Wade’s article, ended up looking like he was taking on some of her more questionable journalistic standards as his own.
It is often recommended to journalists not to become part of the story. I don’t know if this is good advice.
I think the better advice is that if you are going to write a story, you should be forthright with your audience, share your limitations, and your affiliations, and do not claim to be impartial, unbiased, or to have a higher moral ground. If postmodern theory has taught us at least one true thing, true objectivity doesn’t really exist.
However, postmodern liberals want to pretend they can be objective while claiming the rest of us are wallowing in our passions.
Mrs. Wade, I hope your retirement is full of things you enjoy and I do hope the best for in your personal endeavors. Here at HickChristian, we could always use a writer for Local Flavor if you’re interested.
