Update to Article: Missouri Churches Rally Against Proposed Abortion Amendment
How the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau Supports Life Begins at Conception
Springfield-Cape Girardeau Catholic Diocese
Sister Janine Tran reached out to me to share the current work of her Diocese and the planned response for the Abortion Ballot [We are still waiting to hear if the signatures were fully gathered. The SOS’s office is responsible for this part of the process.] If you are Catholic, reach out to these resources to help you prepare.
Clarification:Â I [represent] the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau.
The representative for the Missouri Catholic Conference (MCC) is Jamie Morris.
His contact info is:Â morrisj@mocatholic.org
These are the current efforts in our diocese:
1. Prayer
All our people are encouraged to pray the Rosary and attend Mass every First Saturday in the months leading up to election month. This includes the months of July to November. The names of churches that has first Saturday Masses are listed here:  https://dioscg.org/respect-life/
2. Advocacy and Public Policy
   Encouraging our people to vote.
All our priests were given information on how to help their parishioners to vote in February 2024 and the deadline to turn in voter registration is October 5th.
3. Education
We do not tell our people how to vote. We explain to them the issue, invite them to discern and pray. Attached is the flyer "Where Does It Say That" put together by the MCC that is being distributed by all four dioceses in our state.
4. Pastoral Care
We also have an array of pregnancy resource centers, family services, and healing care that we offer.
The names and locations of these resources can be found HERE.
I hope this helps and please do not hesitate to reach out.
Once again, my apologies for the delay in answer.
Blessings
I hope Catholics in the 138th understand the difference in positions between Burt Whaley and Tom Franiak. Burt is 100% prolife from conception. Franiak flirts with the heartbeat timing.
